Origin

Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), Chennai was constituted by government of Tamilnadu as a society during November 2001 in fulfill the long felt need of creating an apparatus catering to the entrepreneurial requirements of the small Scale Industrial Sector. It was established after a through feasibility study conducted by EDII, Ahmedabad, EDI is headed by a Special Officer, drawn from Indian administrative Service. Governing Council of EDI consists (mostly) of Senior I.A.S. officers. The vision and mission of this institute is to provide a role model for all similar institutions which have embarked upon Entrepreneurship training in the Southern Region, which includes training institutions of the Government, NGOs etc.

Objectives:

The Chief objectives of this Institution are:

  • To harness the industrial potential

  • To develop, groom and hone up their skills for future industrial needs.

In its goal of meeting the Two Fold Objectives of catering to the needs of the present-day industrialists and future prospective entrepreneurs, the EDI is sufficiently equipped to conduct training programmes on:

  • Energy Audit Management

  • Cleaner Production

  • Sector specific Programmes on Export Opportunities

  • Product Diversification etc.

Entrepreneurship Development Programmes

  • Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps (EAC) for final year Science and engineering college Students.

  • Special Women EDPs (WEDPs)

  • General EDPs of One Month duration.

  • Product / process specific EDPs.

  • Skill Development / Upgradation Programmes of 3 Months duration.

  • Prime Minister Rozgar Yojana Programme.

  • Special EDP for SC and ST

  • Training Programme for beneficiaries covered under New Anna Marumalarchi Thittam 9NAMT)

  • Technology based EDP for Technocats

  • EDPs for Tribals
