GOVERNMENT INDUSTRIAL ESTATE FOR CERAMICS, VRIDHACHALAM

This Functional Industrial Estate was established in 1964 to provide Work Sheds to Ceramic Entrepreneurs in and around Vridhachalam. It also provides water and electricity to such Ceramic Industries located in this Estate. Nine different types of sheds with varied space are rented out for the benefit of Ceramic Manufacturers according to their requirements.

LOCATION AND EXTENT OF LAND:

The Industrial Estate for Ceramics is on the northeastern side of Vridhachalam Town. It has been situated on 42.90 acres of land. The Industrial Estate was started functioning in the year 1964 with 20 factory sheds. Now there are 64 Units functioning in this Industrial Estate as stated below:

MONTHLY RENT:

The sheds are allotted to Entrepreneurs who are manufacturing Ceramic & Refractory ware. As per G.O 2 (D) No.38, dated: 5.5.1995, industries (SIA.II) Department all the units in the Industrial Estate are charged rent at the rate of Re.1.00 per Sq.ft. per month. Water charges are also collected from the Entrepreneurs ranging from Rs.10/- to Rs.25/- according to the type of shed.

II. INSTITUTE OF CERAMIC TECHNOLOGY, VRIDHACHALAM

The Ceramic Training School in Vridhachalam was started in the year 1964 with an idea to impart Training in the field of Ceramics. This is located in the midst of functional Industrial Estate for Ceramics. Initially "Ceramic Training School" offered 4 year Certificate Course in Ceramics.

In order to improve the knowledge of students, syllabus was revised as approved by Department of Technical Education, Chennai. The Ceramic Training School was also re-christened as "Institute of Ceramic Technology" in 1972. The Institute of Ceramic Technology offers course on Diploma in Ceramic Technology. The Directorate of Technical Education issues the Diploma Certificate.

Duration:  The duration of the course is 3 ½ years.

Qualification for admission:   A pass in S.S.L.C (X Std.).

Strength:  30 Students are admitted every year to this course.

Employment opportunities:

Since this Institute is located in midst of various types of Ceramic Factories, the Students have very good opportunities to learn practical knowledge. The Students from this Institute are employed in leading Large Scale Ceramic Industries like Parry, Neycer, Dalmia, Spartek, Carborandum Universal, Alsthom, Johnson & Johnson, W.S. Insulators etc. Further the Students are employed in abroad such as Canada, Malasiya, Arab Countries etc.

Testing:

This Institute is only one of its kind in Tamil Nadu having well equipped laboratory and undertakes testing of Ceramic raw materials and products received from ceramic units located in and around Industrial Estate, Vridhachalam.
